Valentines Day 2016

Seems like just yesterday I was knee deep in felt making superhero sucker capes and boxes for Valentines Day. Somehow I slept and woke up to the next Valentines Day already being here. Time, where are you going?

The superhero theme I did last year (can be found here) was an absolute hit with the boys and their friends. Rumor has it they were “the favorite” but let’s be real it’s probably my kids trying to boost their moms self esteem. haha! I had a lot to live up to and so started with the usual way I start – asking the boys what they want. No surprise Mason wanted an Olaf box – well originally an Elsa box- but he feared retaliation. I was down with Elsa. Logan wanted a Broncos box – What??? No way! (hahahaha) So we set out planning.

Now I basically do the same base theme every year because it works. Take a box (we always have a good size from the product shipping we do) and find some duct tape. Duct tape is awesome because of all the colors it comes in now. (No, duct tape is not paying me to say this) So I always start with duct taping the box in whatever color I want. Once that’s done you’re already mostly there. After that it’s all about the embellishments.

Let me be completely honest, this year I cheated – major. I am 8 months pregnant and we have had so much going on that I knew I just wasn’t going to be able to do exactly what I wanted with these boxes. Originally, I was going to cut out Olafs mouth into the box and draw the rest of the face and nose but just didn’t have time. So I just printed off some graphics, grabbed a glue stick and Voila! Olaf was made.

For Logan the plan was to make an actual jersey, with arms, and not just torso but I ran out of time for that as well. Plus the numbers were not being too nice to me that day so the 8 looks less than appealing. But hey – the kids loved them and I’m completely okay with not winning “the favorite” every year. I mean I gotta share the love. bahahahahaha – for real I’m totally joking.

As for the Valentines themselves, we did gum this year. Yes, a whole pack of gum seems a bit excessive but that’s what the boys picked and it was cheaper than tic-tacs which is what they originally wanted. I called it a win. All I did was make some simple tags to tape to the front, only to discover my double sided tape had disappeared thanks to my boys who think everything sticky can be used in crafts. So we did the old fashioned roll tape thing and called it a day.

Best Valentines I’ve ever done?? Probably not but we had fun doing them. (Well, fun until I discovered no more tape)

We plan on spending Sunday as a family since we will be having sleet and ice that is sure to keep us indoors. I am very behind on getting food for all the special meals I usually make. Guess I need to get on that. Otherwise, work tomorrow and the usual. Hope  you all have wonderful Valentines Days with your kids, your hubby or whoever your hanging with. 🙂
